Biography

Early Years

Born Charlise [Lastname}, they spent their first eleven years living with their mother in the capital city of Calsare. Their father was never in the picture, and as a result they were very close with their mother, an optimistic and proud woman who did her best to provide for her child. However, war kicking up in the west began to destablize the economy, prices rising faster than [name] could work to match them. The pair found themselves on the streets, where [name] eventually passed from a combination of sickness and malnourishment, leaving Charlise alone.

Charlise lived on the streets for about nine months, scraping by as best they could until their twelfth birthday. Sick and starving, they attempted to steal an apple, only to be caught by the shopkeeper. A young man stepped in to help, buying the apple for them as well as some bread and introducing himself as Badger. He convinced them to join the Aviary with promises of good shelter, food, and clothes, leading Charlise back to the compound with him.

Like all new recruits, Charlise spent some time in solitary confinement to ensure they would be compliant, as well as to recover somewhat from their time on the streets. Charlise took poorly to the idea of losing their identity and freedm and tried to escape multiple times, always being caught and beaten before being returned to their cell. Eventually, they stopped resisting and accepted the name Starling, with all it entailed.

Now rather quiet and obedient, Starling became one of the Calsare cohort's best assets. They had learned that fighting back only made things worse, and so did their best to survive within the system. As they grew older, they became intensely protective of the younger assassins, falling into a sort of older-sibling role for many of them. By the time they were eighteen, they had solidified themself as both a skilled assassin and competent leader, cementing their place at the top of the hierarchy.
